Online Physiotherapy

Online consultations in healthcare, including physiotherapy, have been used for many years in both the NHS and private sectors. It has been shown to be an effective method for the delivery of physiotherapy.

The global pandemic has shown just how effective, and necessary, telehealth can be, not least for physiotherapy (1). Countless patients have made a full recovery purely with online physio. This is because the majority of information that we use to work out what is going on and how we can help, comes from you and your story. Thorough questioning and guidance with some simple movements/techniques can help paint a very accurate picture of what the problem is.

Treatment for Hypermobility

How does it work?

Also known as virtual, or remote physio, these sessions take place from the comfort of your own home or workplace, at your computer or smart phone, and at a time that is convenient for you. It takes out the need for travel, therefore saving you time and money, and is a positive change we can make towards the climate crisis.

Your expert physiotherapist will carry out your appointment via a private video call on a secure platform. Here at The Green Physio, we offer 30, 45 and 60 minute consultations. We use a variety of online platforms to suit your needs, including WhatsApp, Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

You will receive an individual program that is adapted to you, your needs and your surroundings. Your treatment program will consist of self-treatment techniques and strategies along with specific exercises, movements and activities. You will also receive descriptions of how you should follow your program and how to perform your exercises.

Do I need any exercise equipment?

No. Your programme will be created with you, so you can use whatever you have available. You don’t have to buy any equipment. All you need is a smartphone, tablet or laptop/PC with a camera.

Where should I be for the appointment?

It is best to think through your surroundings and setup before the consultation begins. Use a space at home or at work where you can have a private conversation with your physio in as quiet a location as possible. Place your device in a stable, suitable position so that your physio can easily see you.

When many people think of physiotherapy they think of manual therapy, but while this is an important part of a clinician’s work it is only one element. Clinicians have found that patients are often more motivated to learn during video appointments than face to face appointments as they know that manual therapy isn’t an option. So although this service does not offer hands-on treatment, what it does do is provide the perfect opportunity to really educate and advise on a condition. It provides a time for demonstration, teaching and practice of self-management and progression support techniques, including exercise therapy and rehabilitation, self-joint mobilisation, self-trigger point release and other soft-tissue treatments and functional movement re-education strategies, so that you can take control of your injury.

It is The Green Physio’s goal to get you out of pain and back to full function.

Whether you would like an assessment of a new injury, review how you are progressing with an old injury or continue with your rehabilitation we are here to help you achieve your goals!
